"the sound is ethereal, uncanny and apocalyptic..."
Thomas Frank, WDR5, West German Broadcasting
'Sea of Curves REV' evokes the power and sensuality of the ocean while mirroring subtle inflections and dramatic shifts in light, transparency and mood as conjured by the sea. Project audio originates in ocean wave sounds recorded by water, land and air via hydrophone, seismometer and microphone.
Symphonic in scope, the work features the ‘hum of the Earth,’ the planetary sonic vibrations believed to be caused by worldwide impact of wave sounds on the sea floor. The Atlantic Ocean was the source as recorded from Newfoundland (seismometer), the mid-Atlantic at a depth of 941 feet (hydrophone) and while standing in the waves at Coney Island, Brooklyn.
This recording is the fourth — final and vastly revised — version of this work. Originally a 6-channel installation, it is here mixed down and processed to binaural stereo format. Unlike all previous presentation formats, this revision offers the original HD audio format used in the studio during composition of the work, with a sampling rate of 96 kHz and bit depth of 24-bits.
Also available in other audio formats.
